Online University Progams

Online University Programs.  So Many Options.
Where Do I Start?

First of all, congratulations on your decison to further your education through
online distance learning!  This article, and the rest of this site, is the right
place to be.

I’ve scoured the internet to find expert authors who’ve written on the wide subject of online education.  You can find feature articles within the approprieate categories of this site.

You know, as I write this article, I’m also considering going for my online degree.  I’ve thought about it for a while, and have even started making inquiries.  What I’d like to do now are:

1.  Give you a list of things to consider

2.  A few tips for avoiding online degree scams

3.  Give you a short list of well-known online universities.

Here are 3 things to consider when going for an online degree:

-"What, exactly, do you want–not just from a program or a degree…but out of life?"

I know this is a big question, and that your answer can change over the years.  But for now, ask yourself this: "Which degree program is best for me right now?"  In relation to this, ask yourself…

-"Is there demand for a person who has the degree I want?"  DON’T just say yes–take a close look at the statistics.  After all, as I type this, it’s January 2009, and job loss is a current theme in today’s news.  If there isn’t an extremely high demand for a person with the diploma or degree you want, consider job security a fantasy.

-Keep in mind that although some distance learning universities offer a wide selection of degree programs, some have better offerings in specific fields than others.  In other words, one online university may have a better developed criminal justice program than it does for a music program.

For example, would you like to earn your degree in engineering?  Then don’t just look for a general university–find one with an exceptional onine engineering degree program.

There are many more tips and advice you’ll find throughout this site…all from expert
authors.

How To Avoid Being Taken In By The Online Degree Scams

If you receive an unwelcome e-mail that you don’t recognize, just delete it.  Reputable companies, institutions, and advertisers know it’s illegal to spam.  They’re aware of the consequences of disobeying the CAN-SPAM Act.

Can you e-mail—or better yet, phone—a person at the suposed online college…and get a response?  If so, that is a good indicator.  In additon, specific answers to your questions are a good confidence builder.

Does the school have a good online reputation?  This isn’t so much about avoiding a scam as much as it is about making sure you get the most reputable return for your money.
